  • Preview Case of ASUU and FGN

  •  Just this morning ASUU took to their twitter handle again about the ongoing strike. It came to our notice that ASUU don't want such things to happen but they were forced to do so.

Today they drop an update on their handle and giving comments of their encounter with the federal government of Nigeria. Not to waste time, let's see what ASUU is talking about here below.

    #AsuuStrikeUpdate:

    Dear Nigerian students,

The strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is now in its 5th Month.

This happens to be the main update and below are the replies on the tweet

In the past 2 to 3 months, the FGN did not pay serious attention to this issue of National Concern on the ground that it now disagrees with the agreements reached through Professor Munzali Jibril's committee.

The Nigerian University Lecturers are in their fourth month withoutsalary on the directive of the Labour Minister.

The obvious fact reveals that the Labour Minister and the suspended Accountant General had been the major hurdle to the flow of the discussion between the FG and ASUU until the former resigned (though retreated later) and thelatter suspended for financial fraud and money laundering.

The FG through the Education Minister set up another committee under the leadership of Professor Emeratus Nimi Briggs to renegotiate the previous agreement.

The ASUU through its representatives complied with the newFG's stance and have been in discussion for the past two months.

News sources revealed compromise was made by both parties to allow speedy flow of discussion and much understanding and progress have been made between the ASUU and FG in the last two weeks. On the basis of the progress made, the discussion required only some finishing touches and reopening of university campuses across the country was eminent.

Sadly, in the past few days, the Labour Minister has resurfaced and been making some provocative utterances and othermischievous moves aimed at faltering with all the progress made through the past souring months.

Henceforth, if you hear about any setback in the prospect of reopening the campuses anytime soon, it is the handiwork of such minister.

The president that you voted for andappointed the minister seems nonchalant to deal with his notoriety or call the minister to order. The options before you are to speak directly to the president about it through any feasible means in a language that he best listens to or just handle the minister yourselves. Otherwise prepare to continue sitting at home for the foreseeable future.

The revelation might be sour but it is the sad truth.

    Mohammed Yusuf.
