Erik ten Hag: Cristiano Ronaldo was my fourth choice for captain

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo was his fourth choice for the Captain's armband in yesterday's clash with Aston Villa at the Villa Park.

Cristiano was the surprise pick to lead the red devils in a mediocre clash that saw Manchester United humiliated in new galactico Aston Villa manager Unai Emery 's first game in charge of  the Villain's oufit.

Unai Emery replaced Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the helm from Spanish  outfit Villarreal FC less than a fortnight ago.

The latter lost his job due to a poor run of form which reached its peak after a below par 3:0 defeat to Fulham on match day 12 of the English Premier League.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag stated clearly how Cristiano Ronaldo (who have had a deciplinary run in with his Dutch coach) was his fourth choice for the match day leadership position last weekend which saw United put in a shift to forget against an initially relegation threatened Aston Villa.

Ten Hag said' we have Harry Maguire who is team captain on the bench, there is Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea who is far from open play and then we have new signing, former Real Madrid man Casemiro who is the leader but can not speak or hear English fluently so it was very difficult to chose so for this reason Cristiano became the obvious bet.  United have the chance to redeem their image in midweek against the Villains as United host them again for a date in the Carabao (FA) Cup.
