Nigerian Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Taraba State

Troops of the 6 Brigade, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully neutralized two terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria.

The operation, which falls under the broader framework of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, was launched to curb terrorist and criminal activities threatening peace and stability in the state.

How the Operation Unfolded

On 15 September 2025, troops received credible intelligence about a planned attack by the Bojo terrorist group targeting Chanchanji community. Acting swiftly, soldiers were deployed to the area, where they engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle along the Demeva-Chanchanji road.

During the exchange, one terrorist was neutralized, forcing others to flee. A follow-up pursuit was immediately initiated, with troops tracking the fleeing terrorists to the Demeva-Gbudu axis, a suspected escape route toward Ananum community in Donga Local Government Area. Another confrontation ensued, resulting in the elimination of a second terrorist.

Weapons and Items Recovered

The troops recovered several items from the terrorists, including:

One (1) G3 rifle

Sixteen (16) rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

One (1) motorcycle

Military Commends Troops’ Bravery

The Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the soldiers for their professionalism and gallantry during the operation. He emphasized the formation’s unwavering commitment to conducting aggressive operations against criminal elements destabilizing the region.

General Uwa further appealed to residents of Taraba State to remain vigilant and continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies. He stressed that community cooperation is vital to achieving lasting peace and security across the state and beyond.
