Unilever Nigeria Plc has successfully concluded its fifth annual Transporters' Safety Week, reinforcing its dedication to road safety across its supply chain. The week-long initiative, held under the theme “No Rush! Na Safety Sure Pass” at the company's Mega Distribution Centre (MDC) in Agbara, showcased the company's commitment to the well-being of its logistics partners and operational excellence.
Key Focus and Achievements
The event was designed to promote a culture of safety and operational efficiency throughout Unilever's logistics network. Key activities and outcomes included:
Hands-on Training: Sessions covered essential skills such as defensive driving, proper cargo security, and effective accident prevention. These sessions were facilitated by experts from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security.
Health and Wellness: Drivers received free medical screenings to ensure they were fit and healthy for safe operations on the road.
Accident-Free Year: A significant achievement highlighted by Logistics Manager Ayokunle Ajijola was that the program resulted in an accident-free year, demonstrating the positive impact of the safety initiative on driver performance.
Recognition of Excellence
The safety week culminated in an awards ceremony that recognized outstanding performance across the logistics partnership:
Best Performing Driver (Pan Nigeria): Awarded to Mr. Jimoh Kazeem of Oritsetimeyin Logistics Limited.
Most Security and Safety-Compliant Transporter: Recognized African Truckers Ltd.
Integrity Award: Presented to Kabiru Sani of LORI Systems Technology.
Managing Director Tobi Adeniyi emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility and reiterated Unilever's zero-tolerance policy for road accidents.
