YouTube has launched an experimental feature exclusive to Android devices that enables song identification through humming, singing, or recording. This novel capability, highlighted on YouTube's support page, allows users to discover songs on the platform by simply humming or singing them for at least three seconds.

For users granted access to this trial, the transition from standard YouTube voice search to this innovative song search function is seamless. Whether humming, singing, or recording a snippet of a song, the platform efficiently identifies the melody and directs the user to relevant YouTube videos featuring the sought-after track.

Interestingly, YouTube's latest experiment bears a resemblance to a feature introduced by Google, its parent company, in 2020. Google's feature allowed users to identify songs by humming, whistling, or vocalizing into the microphone icon within the Google app, Google Search widget, and Google Assistant.

Notably, Google's offering required humming for a more extended duration, typically ranging from 10 to 15 seconds, to pinpoint the song. Google's approach relies on machine learning models to match a person's hum with the distinctive "fingerprint" or signature melody of a song.
