    Zhimak Kemzhibu (1915–2005) remains one of the most legendary figures in Tarok cultural music, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

    Born into the family of the late Chief Kemzhibu—the pioneer of Tarok cultural songs—Zhimak inherited a rich tradition of music deeply rooted in culture, worship, and sacrifice. His father passed on not just the art, but the spiritual essence of Tarok music, which Zhimak nurtured into a powerful tool of entertainment and cultural preservation.

    Rising Fame Beyond Tarok Land

    Through relentless dedication, Zhimak Kemzhibu became a household name, captivating audiences far beyond the Tarok nation. Even among those who did not understand the Tarok language, his music resonated, breaking barriers and promoting peace, unity, and cultural pride.

    He was also a unifying voice among Tarok elites, including the notable Langtang group during Nigeria’s military era. Zhimak’s songs were more than entertainment—they carried messages of harmony and identity.


    A National Icon at FESTAC

    One of his most remarkable achievements was performing at the 1970 FESTAC event in Lagos, where Tarok culture gained national recognition. His performance placed Tarok music on the cultural map of Nigeria, making it one of the most admired traditions from Plateau State.


    Enduring Legacy

    Until his passing in 2005, Zhimak Kemzhibu remained the most celebrated Tarok cultural singer. His recorded songs are still played today, cherished not only by the Tarok people but also by admirers of traditional Nigerian music.

    Though gone, his voice and legacy continue to live on—cementing him as a cultural hero who carried the Tarok nation to the world through music.
